How Essential OMEGAS Work?

How Essential OMEGAS Work

High-quality ingredients are formulated to work together to support your pets’ whole health.

Ingredients with a Purpose

First, it is important to understand why these 3 ingredients are so important and why they work together to form such a powerful Essential OMEGA supplement for your pets.

Let’s start with Perna Canaliculus also known as Green-lipped Mussel or Greenshell™.

High-quality ingredients are formulated to work together to support your pets’ whole health.

The green-lipped mussels are found in the pristine waters of the New Zealand coast, which are some of the cleanest waters on earth due to their long distance from any dense population centers.

What makes green-lipped mussels unique to the world is found in the waterways of New Zealand.

Strict adherence to environmental protection and regulations enables the sustainability of these waterways for harvesting green-lipped mussels.  These mussels are filter-feeding mollusks and are completely dependent on the algae and microplankton that grow in these waters. Phytoplankton is the foundation of the aquatic food chain which is what green-lipped mussels live on.  Although microscopic in size these organisms are their only food source.

New Zealand’s water conditions enable phytoplankton to grow abundantly. The green-lipped mussel pumps the seawater over its gills to trap phytoplankton. Then it is transported to the mouth of the mussel where it can be eaten.  This is in stark contrast to some farm-raised fish such as salmon, used in the production of salmon oil. Many times, those fish are fed omega-6-rich corn feeds and are susceptible to fertilizers or herbicidal agents. In contrast, green-lipped mussel farming optimizes the natural properties of seawater. Nature provides all the food that these mollusks need.

The benefit of this filter feeding is that it is a highly nutritious micronutrient-rich substance and is an excellent way to provide an immediate influx of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, superoxide dismutase, and many carotenoid antioxidants in an easily absorbed and assimilated liquid.

Marine Phytoplankton is the most nutrient-packed SUPERFOOD on planet earth. And it is vegan.

As a result of the hole in our earth’s ozone layer, New Zealand’s animal life tends to have significantly elevated levels of natural antioxidants. The exposure to intense UV rays required the phytoplankton to evolve in order to protect themselves by developing powerful antioxidants that help fight the stress the radiation causes. Green-lipped mussels receive these extra antioxidants and protective mechanisms when they consume the phytoplankton, and these benefits are absorbed when we or our pets consume the green-lipped mussel oil found in our Essential OMEGAS.

Nutrient Rich

Green-lipped Mussels contain 30+ Essential Fatty Acids including these top Omegas 3’s:  Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) and Eicosatetraenoic Acid (ETA). While all omega-3 fatty acids can reduce inflammation by blocking the enzymes (lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase) that contribute to it, ETA is a rare form of omegas that goes one step further: it works at the gene level to lower the production of cyclooxygenase. This means less inflammation, less pain, and more mobility for your canine or feline companion.

ETA found ONLY in the green-lipped mussel is hundreds of times more potent than the EPA found in fish oil. In addition to its anti-inflammatory properties, the green-lipped mussel is considered a SUPERFOOD because it contains various vitamins, minerals, omega-3 fats, amino acids, antioxidants, enzymes, and many more nutrients.

All these components found in green-lipped mussels work to reduce the level of inflammation associated with diseases such as osteoarthritis. The Omega 3’s are combined with other compounds that also fight joint inflammation and pain.

mussel-isolated

Eicosatetraenoic acid, or ETA is only found in green-lipped mussels and binds cyclooxygenase, which is an enzyme that causes inflammation. It also contains glucosamine, chondroitin, zinc, and magnesium, which are beneficial for joint metabolism. The glycosaminoglycans in green-lipped mussels have joint protective properties.

Sustainably Grown and Harvested

Our partner in New Zealand harvests the green-lipped mussels from the South Pacific waters found off the island’s eastern coasts. This water is low in temperature and free of pesticides and other contaminants which makes this the cleanest water on earth. It is harvested with a method that causes no harm to any other marine life, and New Zealand Greenshell™ Mussels have been ranked as one of the top two eco-friendly kinds of seafood in the world by the International Conservation Organization Blue Ocean Institute and gained the USA Blue Ocean Award for environmental sustainability.

Fresh Processed – Our green-lipped mussels are processed on location in a state-of-the-art facility with strict quality control guidelines. By using our advanced CO2 extraction method we are able to isolate, purify, and increase the potency of active ingredients without the use of alcohol or chemical solvents. This produces the highest quality purified marine-lipid extract on the planet.

Certified Sustainable – Our manufacture adheres to strict national environmental standards for marine aquaculture thereby keeping a watchful eye on environmental impact and sustainability.

New Zealand Extra Virgin Olive Oil

These olives grow in the nutrient-rich environment of New Zealand.

Olive oil is rich in antioxidants oleocanthal, oleuropein, beta-sitosterol, and tyrosol which protect LDL cholesterol from oxidation.

The Extra Virgin Olive Oil from New Zealand has won World Competitions for their high quality.

New Zealand’s Extra virgin olive oil offers protection against heart disease by reducing inflammation, LDL cholesterol (Olive oil protects LDL particles from oxidative destruction), and improving endothelial function (Improvement in the function of the endothelium – the lining of the blood vessels). New Zealand extra virgin olive oils retain full flavor and color and have been shown to have high levels of those all-important antioxidants.

As an antioxidant, New Zealand Olive Oil works alongside the Omega-3 fatty acids in the Green-lipped Mussels to diminish free radicals in the body. Thus, preventing them from causing damage. Free radicals damage the growth, development, and survival of cells in the body. (“Thirteen ways to keep free radicals away, and why it’s so important”)

Vitamin E Extract

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and helps to protect your pet’s body from oxidative damage. It does this by preventing oxidative damage to membrane lipids by scavenging free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that are made during normal cell metabolism (chemical changes that take place in a cell). They can build up in cells and cause damage to other molecules. (“Smoking linked to early vision loss and cataracts”) There are several free radicals produced in the body during metabolism, and such potent antioxidants will counteract their deteriorating health effects. Proper dietary vitamin E is required for a healthy immune system, reproduction, heart function, muscle growth, liver function, nervous activity, and healthy skin and coat.

These three ingredients work together to form Essential OMEGAS.

Green-lipped Mussel is safe for dogs and cats and there are currently no known serious side effects. However, Green-lipped Mussel should not be given to dogs or cats with shellfish allergies. We also advise against giving this to a pregnant and/or nursing pet. We suggest you consult your veterinarian if you have any questions about giving Essential OMEGAS to your pet.

Clinical Studies

Many studies have demonstrated the green-lipped mussel oil complex (GLMOC) containing GLMO, vitamin E, and olive oil shows health beneficial effects for treating arthritis, including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis inflammation, and asthma.
